Dance, Nature, and Echoes of the Past

A musical journey where time, myth, and movement converge on stage.

As part of its ongoing collaborations with leading artistic institutions across Greece, the Mytilene Music Festival joins forces with the Athens Municipality Symphony Orchestra to present a concert entitled From Baroque to Neoclassicism.

The programme features Antonio Vivaldi’s iconic masterpiece The Four Seasons, with Apollon Grammatikopoulos as violin soloist and Ioakeim Baltsavias conducting.

The concert is complemented by works by Christoph Willibald Gluck and Ottorino Respighi, highlighting the evolution and enduring influence of Baroque musical aesthetics on symphonic composition from the eighteenth to the twentieth century.

From the dark dramaturgy of myth to the pulse of nature and the revival of the past, this concert unfolds across three distinct musical worlds. Gluck’s powerful Dance of the Furies opens the programme with dramatic intensity, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons paints the ever-changing cycle of nature in sound, while Respighi’s Ancient Airs and Dances bridges the Renaissance and the twentieth century through a refined modern compositional voice.
